Our graduates are excellent practitioners with the business knowledge to create successful practices, and the theoretical and philosophical foundation to treat each patient with skill, compassion, and care.

Industry Overview
Originating in China, acupuncture is a system of healing that has been practiced in East Asian countries for thousands of years. In recent decades, acupuncture has grown in popularity in the United States as a holistic approach to the management of disease as well as for the maintenance of health.
Currently, there are more than 22,500 licensed acupuncture practitioners in the country, and according to the National Acupuncture Foundation, "Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine is one of the most rapidly growing healthcare professions in the United States."
In a 2002 National Health Interview Survey - the largest and most comprehensive survey of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) - an estimated 8.2 million adults in the United States reported being treated by acupuncture, administered by acupuncturists, physicians, and dentists for relief or prevention of pain and other health conditions.
Program Overview
The Acupuncture program is a graduate curriculum leading to a Master of Acupuncture (M.Ac.) degree. It is designed to draw on the Taoist tradition as the basis for seeing the whole person. This tradition includes studying yin/yang and the five elements.
The Institute is a learning community that engenders both personal awareness and intellectual growth in order to develop students’ abilities to practice effectively. We are dedicated to exemplifying high standards and norms for the development of acupuncture in the U.S. in order to further the use of acupuncture as an effective and important form of diagnosis and therapy.
Purpose
It is the purpose of the Master of Acupuncture program to firmly establish acupuncture and the underlying principles of Oriental medicine in the U.S. by providing an extensive and sound educational program for students who wish to pursue this rewarding profession. At the same time, the Institute wishes to establish a standard of acupuncture education that will serve as a norm throughout the world. Through meeting these objectives, the Institute ensures that the public will be served with competence and knowledge. The curriculum is under constant review to ensure the standards of excellence demanded of those completing the program. Students who have completed the program will possess a solid knowledge of the theory and philosophy of traditional acupuncture; be able to treat and to communicate their competence effectively; and have a positive, realistic attitude about the potential of traditional acupuncture.
